Criteria and Selection Process
The Consumers’ Research Council of America issues the Top Dentist Awards throughout the United States that is based on a point value system. This method uses a point value for criteria that is deemed valuable in determining Top Dentists.

The criteria that are used is as follows:
- Experience: Each year the dentist has ben in practice
- Training: Education and Continuing Education
- Board Certification: ADA recognized Dental specialties
- Professional Associations: Membership in Dental associations
Dentists that have accumulated a certain amount of points qualify for the list. This does not mean that professionals that did not accumulate enough points are not good dentists, but merely did not qualify for this list because of the points needed.
Other award or professional recognition programs employ a survey system. This type of study asks fellow professionals whom they would recommend, which many consider to be nothing more than a popularity contest.
As an example, dental professionals who work in a large office have much more of a chance of being mentioned than a professional who has a small private practice. In addition, many professionals have a financial arrangement for back-and-forth referrals. For these reasons, the point value system is preferred and considered to be more accurate.
Nonetheless, no award program is 100% accurate since subjectivity is involved. The point value system deals only with factual criteria. The assumptions of more years in practice is better than less years in practice and more education is better than less education.
No fees, donations, sponsorships or advertising are accepted from any individuals, professionals, corporations or associations. This policy is strictly adhered to, ensuring an unbiased selection.
